COMFORT CLASS (SEAT ONLY)
On board, you'll be comfortably ensconced in a seat with a headrest. At your side: a huge picture window to watch the countryside pass by. Sitting in your comfortable seat in the coach car, you can stretch out your legs on the footrest, lean back into the headrest and admire the scenery rolling by the window. At night, a service attendant will offer you a pillow and blanket so you can fall asleep easily in your plush chair.
COMFORT SLEEPER CLASS (SEAT & BED)
By day, a roomy, welcoming armchair awaits you. By night, you sleep in a cozy bed, gently rocked by the train's motion. When you awake, you can even take a shower aboard. It's the little touches that are guaranteed to please! You can choose between berths, a single, double or triple occupancy bedroom.
Accomodations on all VIA Rail Trains
MEALS
You can buy snacks or refreshments on most VIA Rail trains in comfort class. The typical menu includes a selection of coffee, tea, soft drinks, juices, spring water, muffins and pastries, candy, chocolate bars, assorted sandwiches, soup, daily light meals & hearty meals, assorted beers, Canadian wines, spirits and liqueurs.
Dining Cars serving freshly prepared meals by an onboard chef are available on certain routes including: The Hudson, The Chaleur (between Montreal and Matapédia only), The Ocean (off season only), and The Canadian (off season only).
BAGGAGE
Checked baggage is available on certain routes including:The Skeena (peak season only), The Hudson, The Canadian (select trains only), Lake Superior, the Abitibi, Saguenay, the Chaleur, and The Ocean (restrictions based on weight and size). We ask that you restrict yourself to one or two items of carry-on baggage. On the above trains passengers can make use of the baggage car and check a maximum of six articles, three free of charge.
COFFEE
You will enjoy only 100 percent Fair Trade Certified coffee while traveling on all trains throughout Canada. To help us further reduce waste, you may even purchase VIA's stainless steel insulated mug for only $5 and the Comfort Coffee Card for $9. This card entitles you to 6 hot beverages (coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, where available) aboard any VIA Rail train when you present VIA Rail's mug or your own in Comfort Class (economy).
ALCOHOLIC DRINKS SERVICE
Alcohol service is governed by provincial laws. As such, the times at which alcohol is served depends on the province in which the train is traveling. Under these laws, you cannot consume alcohol that was not purchased on board.
SMOKING POLICY
Since November 1, 2004, The Canadian offers an entirely smoke-free experience. Our non-smoking policy extends to all cars, vestibules, washrooms, lounges and private spaces. However, those who wish to smoke will be able to do so during regular station stops.
