Day 1 & 2 – Whitehorse & Upper Labarge Lodge
Welcome to the Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon and world famous gold rush center. This is the beginning of your unique wilderness down the historic Yukon River. The journey will take you over 600 kilometers through the Yukon wilderness – internationally acclaimed for it’s unspoiled wilderness, rich culture, history and warm, friendly people.
An exciting day on the river in specially designed private river launch will bring you to Upper Labarge Lodge. This was one of the most popular stops of the riverboats in the 1930’s. Your accommodation is in a deluxe private lodge that has been uniquely designed to provide first class accommodation, meals and comforts with the look of an old riverside lodge. During your 2-night stay at the lodge you can participate in a host of personally guided activities including wilderness walks, wildlife viewing, bird watching, canoe and kayak paddling on the Yukon River, visiting historical sites and participating in cultural and interpretive programs with the local First Nation’s people.
Accommodation: Overnight at the Upper Labarge Lodge
Days 3 & 4 - Homestead Lodge
Well rested and ready for adventure, motor 20 miles to Lake LaBerge and into the “Thirty Mile” section of the Yukon River. This is the perfect place to kayak alongside of the high-cut banks and small rapids that have earned the Yukon its status as one of Canada’s 28 “Heritage Rivers”. Stop at Steamboat Island and visit the shipwrecked paddle wheeler Evelyn before boarding a floatplane for a one-hour flight upriver. From the air you can see how the Yukon swells in size as the Teslin, Big Salmon and many other rivers flow into it. The plane banks and descends to land at the confluence of the Pelly River. Here you are welcomed to the Homestead Lodge – the most northerly viable homestead in Canada. The lodge is near historic Fort Selkirk and part of a preserved wilderness site. Once again the opportunities to explore and interpret the wilderness abound. You are in the heart of the lands of the First Nations people of the Ta’an Kwachan, Kwanlin Dun, Selkirk and Tr’onedk Hwech’in nations.
Accommodation: Overnight at the Homestead Lodge
Day 5 - Wilderness Outpost
Today venture even further north along the great river, into the wilderness. You arrive at your destination, Wilderness Outpost. This is the most remote back country experience of the journey. Your “tented cabins” nestled along the river are designed to give you the feel of “roughing it in the bush” while at the same time keeping all the creature comforts full in tact. Your time here is spent hiking, wildlife viewing, enjoying fine food and sitting around the campfire.
Accommodation: Overnight at the Wilderness Outpost
Day 6 & 7 - Dawson City
The final stretch of the journey on the river takes us through the traditional lands of the Tro’nek Hwech’in to Dawson City – once known as the “Paris of the North.” For the next two days you’ll relive the excitement of this free-wheeling gold rush town. While your accommodations are in a beautiful Heritage Home, you’ll venture into all the fine establishments that made this city hum during the Gold Rush – including Diamond Tooth Gerties Casino, Jack London’s cabin and the Danaja Zho Cultural Center.
Accommodation: Overnight at a Heritage Home
