Partnership brings luxury adventure to Canadian North

A one-of-a-kind river cruise experience awaits in Yukon Territory. Aboriginal groups, private enterprise, and the provincial government have partnered to launch a luxury adventure along the magnificent Yukon River. Small groups of 10 passengers will board a 45-foot deluxe vessel and trace the journey made from Whitehorse to Dawson City generations ago by people seeking to strike it rich during the Gold Rush. One hour of the journey is made by floatplane, giving a bird’s eye view of this rushing northern waterway.

Pathway to natural wonders

The Great River Journey is a safari of about 600 kilometers with frequent opportunities to disembark to visit the pristine natural areas and historic sites along the way. Passengers will stop in lodges with old fashioned charm coupled with modern appointments that mirror the ambience of the time periods being explored. Imagine a Yukon riverboat stop in the 1930s, a wilderness homestead circa 1901, a trading post of the 1840s, or Klondike Gold Rush amenities of 1898. The journey passes through the traditional lands of the Ta’an Kwäch’än, Kwanlin Dun, Selkirk, and Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nations, many of whom work as guides and hosts.

The small group dynamic of The Great River Journey allows your pilot and guide to accommodate individual tastes and interests. Passengers can choose to spend leisure time in a range of pursuits including cycling, fishing, canoeing, bird watching, horseback riding, or All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) riding. Whitehorse offers several museums, Miles Canyon, the soothing mineral waters of the Takhini Hot Springs, and Yukon Wildlife Preserve. Wildlife at the preserve include moose, muskoxen, woodland caribou, and elk (called wapiti by indigenous people).
